We partnered with Connected Places Catapult to develop the Digital Twin Hub as a living knowledge community, bringing together experts from industry, academia, and government to share insight and drive adoption of digital twin innovation.

Context and challenge

The Digital Twin Hub (DT Hub) serves as the UK’s leading community platform for digital twin professionals. Its mission is to support a connected ecosystem of digital twins through collective learning, guidance, and practice—embodied in their ethos: “Learning by doing, progressing through sharing.”

Over time, the Hub had outgrown its original digital infrastructure. A modern platform was needed to support:

  • A growing membership base—now over 6,000 members globally.
  • Rich community engagement through forums, live events, showcases, and resource sharing.
  • A responsive, accessible design that delivers on its community-first ethos.
  • Easy onboarding and visibility for new members, novices to experts alike.

Our approach

We designed and delivered a modern, scalable online community platform that showcases the Digital Twin Hub’s brand and supports a diverse set of community tools.

Key features and contributions:

Home & hub experience: A clear landing space inviting newcomers to “Discover, connect, and innovate with professionals”.

Structured navigation: Simplified paths into core areas—including events, forums, resources, Gemini Calls, and project registers—helping users find what they need fast.

Community onboarding: Prominent sign-up prompts with inclusive messaging (“even if you’re just starting to gain an understanding of digital twins”) reduce barriers to entry.

Engagement architecture:

  • Discussion themes (e.g., Concepts, Competencies, Pathway to Value), encouraging focused conversations and practical learning.
  • Community Calendar, Gemini Calls (live and online), events, and workshops as recurring touch-points for knowledge-sharing and connection.
  • Organisation showcase pages, enabling members to highlight case studies, news, presentations, and collaboration opportunities.

Resource-rich content hub: Hosts directories, case studies, research registers, podcasts, toolkit downloads, Gemini Papers, and news—all navigable and easily discoverable  .

Governance and participation layers: Structured entry points to strategic boards, advisory groups, working groups, and community councils—empowering members to shape direction  .

Spotlight: the Gemini Call

At the heart of the DT Hub is the Gemini Call, a weekly gathering where community members share updates, presentations, and insights on digital twin innovation. Over the past three years, it has become a cornerstone of knowledge exchange, featuring hundreds of speakers and attracting participants from across industry, academia, and government.

In the new platform, the Gemini Call is given greater visibility and accessibility:

Dedicated space: each session is listed with recordings, slides, and summaries, making knowledge easy to revisit and share.

Integrated engagement: members can discuss topics directly in the community, extending the value of the live call into ongoing dialogue.

AI-powered search: an additional tool unlocks the archive of past calls, enabling members to query insights from over three years of sessions instantly.

By embedding the Gemini Call into the platform, we turned a weekly event into a permanent knowledge resource , amplifying its impact and making it central to how members learn from one another.

Impact

The new platform is more than just a website, it’s a living, purpose-led community.
